| Judy Stakee is the owner and founder of The Judy Stakee Company. She has over 30 years of experience as an executive in the music industry and specializes in all aspects of development for artists and songwriters.
As a veteran of the music industry, Judy has held numerous positions including her most recent 20 years at Warner Chappell Music as Senior VP of Creative. She was responsible for developing and managing their broad roster of new artists and legendary stars. During her time at Warner Chappell she signed and worked closely with acclaimed artists including Grammy-award winner Sheryl Crow, Michelle Branch, Jewel, Katy Perry, Gavin DeGraw, and Producer/Writers John Shanks, Wayne Kirkpatrick, Scott Cutler, Anne Previn, Kevin Kadish, and Franne Golde among others. She joined Warner Chappell in 1989 as Director of A&R where she worked with a variety of songwriters including Jamie Houston, Matthew Gerrard, Robie Nevil, and Tim James, all who have gone on to write for the High School Musical Movies (1, 2, 3 & 4). Known throughout the industry as the "champion" of the writer and song, she has always held top honors as having the "best song sense" around. Judy has also been leading fun and exciting camps and workshops for over 15 years. She helps to promote community and communication not only between the writers themselves, but also within their different genres of music, worldwide. One year she paired John Rich (before Big and Rich) to co-write with Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue)! She started holding monthly writers meeting in the early 1990's promoting open discussions and sharing of creative ideas. Her first guest, Wynonna Judd, immediately cut a song from the writers' groups pitch meetings. Prior to joining Warner Chappell, Stakee was General Professional Manager at Screen Gems Music from 1985 to 1988. There she signed and developed the careers of several songwriters including Rick Knowles and Scott Cutler, both Oscar and Grammy nominees. Stakee began her career at Arista Music in 1978. During her seven years with the label, she held a variety of positions culminating with her role as General Professional Manager. Stakee holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music from the University of Southern California, past president of NSA, former governor of NARAS (LA Chapter) and she is a musician and vocalist in her own right. She has garnered hundreds of BMI and ASCAP awards for her writers and numerous Grammy, MTV, CMA and AMA's. |
